Fresh Food for Seniors

It’s time for senior discounts at Farmers’ Markets across SC!

The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) allows low income senior citizens, age 60 and older, to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from farmers’ markets, roadside stands and community-supported agriculture programs. SFMNP serves approximately 25,000 senior citizens in South Carolina. The program runs from May through mid- October. Participants are awarded $25 in the form of five checks of $5 to spend at authorized farmers’ markets and stands. Checks are distributed on a first-come first-serve basis at senior centers and other locations across the state.

The SFMNP is administered by the South Carolina Department of Social Services and county Agencies on Aging. The program is currently available in 37 counties. For a list of voucher distribution locations click here or contact your SC Thrive Regional contact for more information.
