Hello everyone! This is Kristine Luke, Training Manager for SC Thrive. I am excited to bring you more opportunities to connect with SC Thrive and our partners. A year ago, we celebrated our Heroes of Change all across the state during our Hero Days Visits. What came from those days was a resounding plea for more information about our programs and services. You asked; SC Thrive delivered! This year, we’re bringing webinars to you about programs and services that you can utilize to better serve your clients. “But, Kristine, how do we find out more about the webinars?”. Great question! Each month, a gift in the form of an email is delivered to your inbox with upcoming training information, program updates and webinar information. You can also connect with us via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram! Below are some recorded webinars and upcoming webinars through SC Thrive:
20% (Mental Health First Aid):
20% of US adults will have a mental disorder. Will it be your friend? Your family member? You? Will you know what to do? SC Thrive is proud to offer Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) in your community; this training teaches how to identify and understand signs and symptoms of common mental disorders. May was recognized as Mental Health Month; join SC Thrive as we discuss resources available to your community. This webinar will inform ways you, your organization and clients can partner through SC Thrive to help overcome barriers to mental health assistance and resources. You will learn about upcoming training opportunities and how to host a Mental Health First Aid Training. Presented by SC Thrive staff, Karen Waataja, Director of Grants and Contracts and Project Coordinator, Lauren Ziegler, for Spartanburg MHFA Project Aware Initiative. Click HERE to view this webinar.
Celebrating SC’s Neighborhood Pharmacy:
Thursday, January 12th is National Pharmacist Day. SC Thrive is excited to offer this webinar with our neighborhood pharmacy, Welvista! 15% of nonelderly South Carolinians are uninsured, higher than the 12% national average. The Welvista Medication Assistance Program is a non-profit, mail order pharmacy that provides eligible South Carolinians with free prescription medication from an approved drug list. To qualify, you must be uninsured, under the age of 65, and meet the program’s income limits. Established in 1991, Welvista grew from a grassroots movement in Columbia South Carolina, to provide access to prescription medication for uninsured patients. In this webinar, you will hear from Cathy Martin, Director of Patient Advocacy about the program, completing Welvista applications, and ways to partner with your regional representative. SC Thrive Taxes:
In South Carolina, the average cost to file a tax return is $243. Refund Anticipation Loans can have an interest rate of up to 35%. These barriers prevent clients from receiving 100% of their tax refund, if eligible. How can SC Thrive help your clients with taxes? Through SC Thrive’s system, people can file both Federal & State Taxes at no cost!! Anyone can file their own tax returns through the Self-Serve system or get help at an SC Thrive Tax Site. SC Thrive’s trained Tax Counselors can help neighbors, clients or congregations file their Federal and State Taxes. A growing number of organizations across the state have discovered how easy it is to help their clients file their taxes and the advantages it offers to their organizations and communities. This webinar will introduce ways you, your organization, and clients can partner through SC Thrive to maximize refunds and tax credits, build capacity, and become an SC Thrive Tax Site. You will learn about upcoming training opportunities and how to host a tax clinic. Presented by SC Thrive’s PeeDee Regional Manager, Richard Moses, he is our Tax Program Lead for South Carolina. A native of Marion, SC, Richard is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and is currently pursuing a Master of NonProfit Management and Leadership at Capella University. Richard is a graduate of the Francis Marion University’s Nonprofit Leadership Institute Class of 2015. He worked in the insurance industry for over 15 years as a claims adjuster and currently serves as Minister of Family Life at Savannah Grove Baptist Church in Florence, SC.
