_Feed Your Family

Do you or your family need fresh food?

SNAP, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is a state and federal nutrition program that helps you stretch your grocery budget to buy healthy food at grocery stores, convenience stores, some farmers markets and other places across the state. SNAP benefits are given each month on an EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) card which works like a debit card.

You can apply for SNAP with one of our counselors at an SC Thrive site or over the phone with our Contact Center at 800.726.8774.

Additional SNAP Programs:

  • Healthy Bucks Program | With a purchase of at least $5, SNAP recipients will be eligible for a $10 token to be used for the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables at select community farmers' markets across the state. Click HERE to learn more about Healthy Bucks and to find participating locations.

  • Medical Deductions | If you’re over 60 years old or receiving a disability benefit at any age and applying for food assistance through SNAP and have a minimum of $35 per month in medical expenses, you may qualify for deductions for medical expenses. These expenses include prescription medications, transportation to and from the doctor or pharmacy, health insurance premiums, and medical or dental care not covered by insurance or Medicaid. Check with your caseworker to see if you qualify.

  • Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program | Seniors may receive vouchers to purchase food at farmers' market locations. These vouchers are distributed at Council on Aging offices across the state. Click HERE to find your county's Council on Aging office.
