Utilizing Volunteers for Tax Season
Do you want to offer free tax return filing assistance to your clients but struggle to find a staff member with time available to take on another project? Do you have volunteers who would be interested in learning a new skill? SC Thrive can help!
We can handle all the training for you! In-person and online training is available and will equip volunteers to prepare simple Federal and State returns for free for clients with an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $65,000 or less (married couples filing jointly with an AGI of $95,000 or less), yielding an average saving of $243 for each client. Add this to the return amount and possible tax credits, and this is a huge positive financial impact!
Serving as a Tax Counselor is a temporary and flexible volunteer opportunity spanning from the end of January through the middle of April. Volunteers can serve clients on a walk in or appointment basis, and can support your agency either at your facility or at the numerous clinics scheduled throughout tax season across South Carolina. There are many options for both your volunteers and your clients to participate in tax filing with SC Thrive!
Tax season is a special opportunity to support our clients financially and provide financial stability education. It is also a time to offer a special project to volunteers, in turn building your organization’s capacity. You can contact your local regional staff if you’re interested in becoming an SC Thrive Tax Site.
